Apply for a House
Applications to become a Partner Family are taken once each year, usually in the late summer or early fall. Notice of Application Day is given both on this web site and in the Palladium-Item newspaper. Here are some of the facts about aquiring a home from Habitat:
- The house will be a basic, practical structure.
- The house is made available with money and labor donated by people who are concerned about the living conditions of others.
- The houses are sold with no interest charges.
- If chosen, a 1% down payment, the first year's homeowner insurance, and two month's property taxes will need to be paid at closing.
- Each family is required to provide a set number of hours of volunteer labor on their home.
Families will be selected based on the following:
- Need for Simple, decent housing.
- Ability to make monthly payments on a zero interest loan. (The loan will be no more than 30% of your annual household income)
- Willingness to participate in the Partner Family program (putting in 'sweat equity' hours and attending Habitat sponsored classes)
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Must be a resident of Wayne County, IN or have worked in Wayne County for the past twelve months, or have children attending school in Wayne County.
Under the Federal Fair Housing Act, it is illegal, on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, handicap, or familial status (having children under the age of 18). Habitat for Humanity of Greater Richmond, Inc. complies in full with this Act.
